Updates on Furniture & My Parents Moving

Woah, it's Thursday already!   Wow.  I have been busy with many exciting makeovers but today is a post about something personal.

Yesterday, on Facebook, I posted this.

For whatever reason I don't post personal things on here.  It's not so much that I mind sharing.  It's more about that's not why y'all visit the blog.  This is a diy, home improvement, painted furniture blog, not day in the life of Kaylor blog (coffee, blogging, breakfast, bootcamp, more food, working on furniture, shower, dinner, clean, sleep....everyday...not very interesting).  Anyway, I haven't mentioned anything about my parents moving because it hasn't been relevant.  The day has come for them to leave and now I feel it is time to talk about it.

My parents are moving to the Frankfurt, Germany area for my dad's job.  The estimated time is 14-18 months but as most things go in the oil and gas industry, it would not surprise me if they are there for a few years.  This is an opportunity of a lifetime and I am really happy they are taking it.

My parents have never traveled.  My dad went to Canada once for work I think but other than that, neither of them have been outside of the country.  They went to Germany a few weeks ago to find a place to live and decided to stay in a cute, traditional German town instead of the big city of Frankfurt.  Hopefully, my parents will take the time to travel and see many cities in different countries.  Also, my dad is of German heritage, his grandmother was born in Germany,  and he is big into ancestry stuff.   He now has a chance to see some of the places where his family is from.

Honestly, I think I am more excited about them moving than they are.  I live for travel.  I yearn for it.  I am obsessed with it.  It's an addiction.  Some would say it is a problem.  My mom's parent's traveled a little when I was young but no one else in my family, parents, cousins, aunt & uncles, travel so I am not really sure where I get the wanderlust bug from.  And I have it BAD!  I am constantly on the hunt for the next vacation deal or job for BLittle in the Caribbean or other cool place (it has to be near warm salt water).  We have been very fortunate to travel and see many places but it will never be enough.  I want to see it all.  Life is too short and the world God made is too amazing to not travel and see all the beauty.

That attitude is why I am going to miss my parents but the excitement for them overrides the missing them feeling.  If it was Blittle and I, we would have taken the opportunity, too.  I can't wait to visit and see some of Europe.

My mom wanted some new pictures so we had family photos taken this weekend.  My brother was married in March and other than the wedding, we haven't had professional pictures taken in 4 years.  It was time for an update.

Thank you Flair Photography for taking such great pictures.  I still haven't seen all of them so I will post more later.

Monday, I will be taking my parents to the airport.  They plan on visiting in November and we plan on visiting in late Spring.  Hopefully, all four of us, my brother, his wife, Blittle, and I, can go over at the same time so we can all be together.  Please pray for safe travels and that they have an amazing time while they live there.

Now for an update on furniture.

I am finishing up a table today and tomorrow I will be painting a dresser, desk, and trunk.  They are really great pieces and I am excited about the paint finish the client chose. Here are the before pictures.

Next week I have a huge dresser, tall boy and bed coming in for paint and after that, an entertainment center.  There are a few pieces planned for the beginning of September but no details on them yet.  I am very grateful for all the work!  This is the busiest I have been since we moved and it feels good to have consistent work pouring in.  Thanks everybody!

Tomorrow I will post the end table makeover that matches the pink & gold dipped dresser!  Here is the before.

Be sure to check back tomorrow to see the gorgeous after.

Pink & Gold Dipped Dresser

I hope everyone is having a great week!  Things here have been crazy!  When it rains, it pours and when one person wants a bedroom set painted or refinished, apparently so does everyone else.  I am so grateful for the work and I can't believe things have gotten so busy, so fast.  Having said that, my house is the messiest its been in months and we have family pictures tomorrow and I don't have a complete outfit.  EEK!

Today, I am featuring a dresser that I am in love with.  I know I have said that before but this one is for real.  Totally infatuated with this dresser.

Our friends, Nathan and Adrienne, are expecting their 3rd baby.  They have two boys and this time they are having a girl! They recently built a new home and needed some new furniture for a girl nursery and bedroom.

Adrienne, and I have been looking for a solid wood, good quality, french provincial, or something similar with a curved front for a few months now. A set was finally found and the dresser and end table will go in the nursery.  The bed is going in the guest room.

Here are the before pictures.

The dresser is solid and super heavy.  When I saw the first picture of the set, I told Adrienne I was going to feel guilty about painting the piece.  The dresser had several scratches, stains and dings on the drawers fronts as well as the top so I didn't feel extremely guilty about painting it.  Plus, I knew the final look was going to be gorgeous.

I posted this picture on Facebook and Instagram.  Brass handles again!  What a difference a good cleaning and polishing makes!

The theme of the nursery is gray, pink and gold.  The walls are painted gray and this dresser and the end table, I'll show you that makeover later, will be in the room with Adrienne's grandmother's gold mirror hanging over the dresser.

Adrienne decided she wanted the dresser to look gold dipped.  I have never done this before so I was excited when she told me.  The soft pink with the brass handles and the gold dipped legs is a beautiful combination.

LOVE!

I can't wait to see the entire room put together.  The end table had the same makeover, but I felt like it deserved it's own post.  :)   I'll publish that in a few days.

I hope everyone has an amazing Thursday!

I need your help, again????

I want next month's tutorial to be a ROUND WRINGER WASHER, MAYTAG OR SPEED QUEEN.

I want a round washer, not a square one.  It's on legs with the wringer on top.

I need pictures and measurements.

Chrispy Critter has sent me a fantastic idea for making one.  I had wanted to make one for years!!! Just hadn't figured an easy way to go about it, Chris sent me a gem.

I've been on the net and can't get any response, DUH . . ."I'm a miniaturist and I want measurements for a wringer washer."  There are collectors out there (some have buildings full of them) but they think I'm crazy.  I have searched the net for a long time for dimensions.  I've missed out on a couple at used appliance stores around me.  The best thing would be if I could find one to see for myself and measure it.

Does anyone have access to one of these washers?????

Contact me at:      camceiling@frontiernet.net

Thanks,
Kris

Here's a picture of what I am looking for.

Judi has contacted me, she has one, raised eight kids washing their clothes in it and it still works.  Says  a lot about they way things used to made!!

Thanks to all of you that researched for me!!!!

Green & Brass End Tables

Every piece I makeover, I enjoy.  I have a passion for paints and stains and how some elbow grease, sometimes a lot of it, can totally transform an outdated piece.  If you have toured my house, you know I have a fondness for neutrals, soft blues and navy.  The majority of my clients are the same.  Whites, whites with glazing, creams, grays and walnut stains are popular color choices.  They are all beautiful choices but when I have a client come along that requests a bright color, I get a little extra giddy.  I love painting colors I don't normally use.

The client purchased some end tables I had available for custom color.

She sent me the color she wanted and when I saw it on the computer screen, I knew it was going to be a brighter green but when I saw the paint in person, I was so excited.  It is gorgeous and no one has ever requested a piece this color or anything close to it.

The client also chose to use the original lion head pulls.  They are really neat looking and they are solid brass!  I polished them all to the bright, shiny finish that they should be.  The brass on the green is lovely.

Here is the final look.

How fun!  I can't wait to see them in their new home.  The client promised to send me pictures when she gets everything set up and of course, I promise to share it with y'all!  Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram to see extras and behind the scene pictures.

If you already follow me, you saw this picture yesterday.  This makeover I am obsessed with a little and hopefully will be able to share it with you this week.
